  8.  AB    OBJECTIVE: To highlight the influence that violence and the issue of
  9.        current elections have on the work of NGO's and AIDS. METHOD: A review
  10.        of the health position of political parties to investigate whether the
  11.        health issues especially AIDS are appropriately addressed. An analysis
  12.        of the positions will be made and appropriate proposals forwarded
  13.        through the relevant channels. DISCUSSION: Violence impedes the work on
  14.        AIDS at grassroots level and the coming elections will compound the
  15.        situation. NGO's are concerned about the present government's view and
  16.        commitment regarding the prevention of AIDS and the funding thereof as a
  17.        national health priority. RECOMMENDATION: During the post-election era
  18.        efforts of the elected government should be focused on the prevention
  19.        and education of AIDS.
